John White

I have a great memory of driving to UNC Chapel Hill in January 1965, in his Volkswagon Beetle.

We were in the same homeroom for 3 years and friends.  I'm really sorry for his loss.   Joan Woodworth

John's humor and positive attitude kept me (us) going during those days without AC and lackluster instruction.  He was a real positive force in our Class of 1962!

My best friend for 65 years, John and I shared many memories including summer travels and working in NYC as construction laborers during two consecutive summers while in college.

John got his Bachelor's Degree at The University of Tampa after serving in The US Army in South Korea as a Military Police Officer and then received his Law Degree from Stetson University here in Gulfport.  John established his law career in Pinellas County as a Defense Attorney.   He started out with the Public Defender's office followed by many years in private practice and and then back to specialty work representing Defendents in cases with the State of Florida.  He was particularly proud of prevailing in the one case he brought and argued before The Supreme Court of The State of  Florida.

Sadly, John's wife* Mary, died unexpectedly in 2020.  They leave behind two daughters, Margaret and Alex and Grandaughter Piper.

* ( I decided to add this postscript....Mary and John divorced, but loved and cared for each other to the end;  my reasoning for not listing Mary as his ex-wife).

John white was a neighbbor in our younger days. We played a lot of basketball in his backyard. I knew his parents well Dr. Paul White and his wife Bea White and his grandmother who lived to be 102. John grew up with a special lifestyle of summer vacations to the Bahama islands on their family yatcht,

John was a bit of a wild child but a great guy and he will be missed. It's hard to think of life without occassionally running into John. He has always enjoyed a special group of friends who cared for him alot. HIs wife Mary and two lovely daughters will also miss John.

I hope all his classmates will raise a glass to John's life and fellowship throughout the years

Thank you Bob,

I was not aware Mary had passed away. I would appreciate knowing if there will be a celebration of life for John.

You knew John better than anyone and I know he will be missed by all

Please reread my edited post for John and Mary above.

Per Gary's question, John's daughters, Margaret and Alex,  are working on an appropriate obituary notice as well as a possible future COL event.

That senior photo of John is the only image I hold of him, as I have not seen him since. At that time, he was a 'heart-throb' of mine. A favorite memory is of us dancing together at a Sock-Hop. I am glad to hear he had a full, happy life, and sad that he is now gone.

The last time I saw John was a few years ago walking on the beach by the Don...I was lucky enough to be there when the Sunday walk crew took off on their weekly walk.  Johnand I talked most of the way, shaaring wonderful memories from years gone by.  There will always be a special place in my heart for this wonderful boy who grew up to be a sweetheart of a man.  Sad sad sad.  Spread love everywhere  Joan
