Richard Maier

Richard Louis Maier left this world to be with God June 16, 2015. He was 71 years old and will be greatly missed by his loving family and many lifelong friends. Richard and his wife, Carol, were married for 29 years and her three children: daughters, Janine Prevaux and Lorain Prevaux Land, both in Virginia; and son, Steven Prevaux, his wife, Holly; grandson, Steven; and four step-grandchildren in Florida; were a significant part of his life. Born in St. Petersburg, Richard was the son of the late Robert Louis Maier of Dowagiac MI and Alma Pendley Maier of Hampton GA. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Tomlinson Jones of Valdosta, GA; nephews, James Tomlinson of Ocala, and Jason Tomlinson of Tallahassee; brother, James Maier and wife Dale Maier of Lakewood Ranch; nephew, Ryan Maier of Sarasota; and niece, Lori Maier of Winter Garden.

Richard received his initial training in computer technology in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during his years of service. His experience led to a highly successful career in information technology. Richard received numerous awards and recognition for major accomplishments during his 29 years with Florida Power Corporation and Florida Progress. He was active in the Florida Power Club and served a term as president of that organization. Richard later embarked upon another successful chapter in his IT career as a consultant, including a four-year contract based in Virginia serving electric cooperative utilities in Virginia and Maryland. Richard will be remembered for his easy-going manner, sense of humor, and endless passion for football; but most of all, for being an authentic and gentle soul. He will truly be missed by us all. A private burial was held in South Carolina and a memorial service in celebration of his life will be scheduled in Florida sometime in the fall.
