Florence Lambert (Baria)

Florence Lambert (Baria)

Baria, Florence LAMBERT,  peacefully passed away on November 15, 2018 after a long battle with Pancreatic and Brain Cancer. Florence was born November 29, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama to Florence and Leroy Lambert. At the age of 12, the family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where Florence graduated from Boca Ciega High School. Following high school, Florence graduated from St. Petersburg Junior College, and Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Florence had a multifaceted career as a teacher, entrepreneur, and tutor. After graduating from Florida State University, Florence began her teaching career in the Atlanta Public School System. She later taught in the San Diego Public School System. After returning to Atlanta, Florence built a direct sales organization and later brokered brochure design work fora number of fund raising companies. Florence also worked as a free lance Account Director for several graphics design firms. The final years of Florence's career were spent as a tutor specializing in Language Arts, SAT/ACT Prep, and Study Skills. She had a passion to make certain her students had the fundamentals to successfully move to the next stage of their education. Florence was loved by her students. After moving back to Atlanta in 1974, Florence met her husband of 41 years Jim Baria. The two were married on October 8, 1977 and lived in the Atlanta Area. Jim and Florence spent many Friday nights and Saturdays supporting the various activities of their children Courtney and Eric Johns and all of their grandchildren. Florence was an active person that had many interests. She played on a number of ALTA and USTA tennis teams in Gwinnett County and relished the many friendships she developed during her playing time. Florence also enjoyed golf, gardening, playing bridge, and fishing. She regularly played in several bridge groups and honed her skills by playing bridge online. Gardening was Florence's self proclaimed therapy and she spent many hours working in her yard and raising her violets. Florence had a lifelong love of fishing since she moved to Florida at the age of 12. She took up fly fishing later in life when she and Jim bought a house in Cashiers, North Carolina. Saturdays in the Fall were spent watching Florida State football games and yelling at the television when either the offense or defense didn't perform to "Coach" Baria's expectations. She kept waiting for Coach Bowden to call her for help with his game plan but alas, the call never came. Florence was preceded in death by her parents Florence and Leroy Lambert and her son, Richard Erik Johns. She is survived by her husband Jim Baria, her daughter Courtney Johnson, her son-in-law, Eric Johnson, her grandchildren Avery Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Ella Johnson, and Becall Johns, her bother Allen Lambert, her nieces Sue De Camp and Shannon Ledbetter, and nephew Michael Lambert.

She was one of the best, a wonderful elegant and brilliant Lady.  She fought this 3 plus year battle with so much courage and strength.  Janet and I will miss our dear friend forever.

Florence was an inspiration to all who knew her -- talented, beautiful, kind, and courageous. Even in the face of this final fight, she reached out to others to encourage them to keep fighting against all obstacles. Rest in peace now, Florence.

We shall all miss those bright blue eyes and sweet smile. One of the nicest ladies one could ever meet! She was so gracious and just an extraordinarily good person. She will surely be missed and I'm betting she touched the lives of many people with her sweetness. Rest in peace, Florence! You fought a hard fight!

Florence and I were meant to be friends..complimentary personalities kept us in touch from High School through the last days before her death. I will miss her so much. As the end approached, we had several meaningful conversations. I let her know we would forever be connected, through our shared horror of what the Millennials are doing to the English language. LOL For me her fierceness stands out loudly; whether fighting her own battles or for someone else, she was passionate and steadfast; such an inspiration. We were authentic with each other to the end. Her funeral (held on the 75th anniversary of her birth) was attended by many, many loving souls,  having connected to her through her many diverse activities. Her daughter Courtney couldn't have been anymore wonderful and vulnerable, throughout Florence's lengthy battle, especially. I hope to stay in touch. And Jim, her husband, was her dearest love and rock. No one beside Florence was as close for as long, in my life. I will forever be grateful for our friendship and hope the love will grow, beyond life....
